As these companies have been audited and ABC can place reliance on their systems, media owners benefit when they use a Certified Supplier because ABC reporting is simplified. These Certified Suppliers are clearly demonstrating their willingness to be open to scrutiny, as well as their support of industry agreed standards.
The major banks and building societies own the Bacs service through Bacs Payment Schemes Limited. It is one of the world’s largest automated clearing services. Established in 1968, the Bacs service encompasses the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) processing of Direct Debit, Bacs Direct Credit, Standing Order, information advices and the management of inter-bank network services. With some 40,000 direct submitters and approximately 60,000 indirect submitters, more than 100,000 businesses use Bacs services. Bacs Payment Schemes Limited operates a Bacs Approved Bureaux Scheme for organisations that submit transactions through the Bacs clearing on behalf of third-parties. Subject to rules and guidelines issued by Bacs Payment Schemes Limited, organisations approved under the Scheme may use the Bacs Approved Bureau logo.
Periodically, Bureaux Inspectors from Bacs inspect bureaux awarded the Bacs Approved Bureau logo. During inspections, the Inspectors review the appropriateness of bureaux standards of business, technical and operational competence and ensure that they continue to meet current good practice standards.
